AACI Summer Nationals
AACI Summer Nationals, Billing Aquadrome
The weekend of 16th / 17th June 2007
For the public the American Auto Club Summer Nationals at Billing brings memories of long sunny days looking at a huge assortment of US vehicles and memorabilia, wandering around the large trading areas or just chilling out in the sun... however this year was slightly different.
The Lucas Oil Top Fuel dragster team started setting up for this event on the Thursday in a prominent position on the main show field and we were looking forward to the weekend. However, a massive storm hit the area late on Thursday and continual showers on Friday and Saturday turned the river side venue into something resembling a swamp in places, despite this the show went on the best it could with everyone making the most of the situation.
As usual the Lucas Oil Top Fuel team attracted a lot of attention and members of the team were on hand to talk to the public, promote Lucas Oil, Carter Motorsport, drag racing and to convince some that yes, it does accelerate to 100 mph in a second.
Sunday was warm and sunny, but still boggy underfoot, which caused something of a problem when trying to get the 23 ton transporter moved, 40 minutes later with the help of a JCB and it was on its way to Santa Pod for our next appearance for Lucas Oil and associate sponsors, the Jap Show on 24th June.
Despite the weather it tuned out to be a good weekend and of course a much more relaxed time for the team compared to a race weekend.
Many thanks to Harry for inviting us along, also thanks to Barry Edwards editor of the excellent AACI magazine for providing the photos, the JCB driver for his help and Big Wal who helped to pull out the motor home with his Range Rover.
