MPG and all that Jazz
Optional engine oil additives are an increasingly useful profit builder for motor factors and garages because they demonstrably help to improve fuel efficiency and further reduce emissions.
Last month, FIA Top Fuel racing driver Andy Carter set a new European speed record of 0-315 mph in 4.70 seconds over the quarter mile track at Santa Pod in Northamptonshire. Miles per gallon is very important in his line of work so around town, he drives a one-year-old Honda Jazz Sport, with a 1.4 L engine that he's owned from new.
The Jazz has always produced a steady 43 mpg but after a service last month, he added a litre of Engine Oil Stabiliser. It's part of the range of optional engine oil additives supplied by his sponsor, Lucas Oil:
"It's now producing a consistent 50mpg around town, but on a long run I'm getting up to 55mpg," he says. "I just wish I'd used it a little sooner."
